Site Assessments
A large, publicly owned utility company discovered buried construction debris in the base of a retention pond, and wished to
remediate the area. Random trenching was performed to assess to the degree of contamination, and it was found to be sporadic throughout
the pond and the berm surrounding it.
To assist them with this work, GEL Geophysics, LLC designed and performed a geophysical investigation to non-invasively
investigate the subsurface. The survey consisted of a combined vertical gradient magnetics and ground penetrating radar (GPR) investigation.
The combination of these methods offered a comprehensive investigation plan to accurately locate and identify subsurface targets.
As a result of this investigation, GEL Geophysics, LLC was able to provide the client with an AutoCAD map showing the
locations of geophysical targets. This allowed them to excavate and inspect the construction debris for hazardous materials and to
perform those excavations safely.
