Unexploded Ordnance
GEL Geophysics, LLC performed several unexploded ordnance (UXO) geophysical investigations to assist Parsons Engineering Science
with their Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EECA) contracts with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Sites investigated thus far include Fort Ord,
Monterey, California; Seneca Army Depot, Seneca, New York; and Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Arkansas.
GEL Geophysics conducted extensive digital geophysical mapping at multiple project sites and munitions ranges using electromagnetics and magnetometry. Data were
collected on 100-foot by 100-foot grids over the ranges in question. Positioning of the geophysical instruments was either recorded using fiducials
generated during data collection or using differential GPS systems mounted to the sensor.
These data were processed using GeoSoft Oasis Montaj software which includes UXDetect modules. Post processing included filtering and corrections for
instrument latency and offset. After data reduction techniques were applied, thousands of anomalies were detected in the EECA process. Target maps and
dig sheets were produced for the ordnance removal/detonation teams for range clearance.
