About Us

History

The business that is now The GEL Group Inc. was founded by George and Molly Greene in 1981 with a handful of employees providing analytical services. The Greenes based the company on the simple premise that if you solve problems and treat people well, they will return when new needs arise.

In the mid 1980s, environmental consulting and field services were added to analytical services as the company continued to meet the needs of their clients. After several expansions, GEL outgrew its facilities and moved to its current location in 1988. Growth continued at a strong pace, fueled by work for the Departments of Energy and Defense. In the early 1990s, the company developed radiochemistry capabilities, followed quickly by radiobioassay. The environmental consulting group grew as well, with the addition of stack sampling, industrial hygiene and geophysical services. These additional services provided clients with a single site solution to their varied environmental needs.

In 2001, George and Molly Greene decided to concentrate their efforts on creating a Christian non-profit organization, Water Mission, dedicated to providing clean drinking water to people in developing countries and those affected by natural disasters. In March of that year, GEL was sold to its current owners, who had been active in the business for many years.

The GEL Group has grown into a multifaceted company that leads the market in many of its lines of business.  Our ongoing focus on building strong relationships and delivering excellence in environmental technical services is evidenced by our broad and enduring client base, and the commitment to providing accurate, cost effective, on-time services and solutions to clients’ needs is still at the core of The GEL Group philosophy.
