The GEL Group, Inc. Awarded the Export Achievement Certificate

On July 22nd, The GEL Group, Inc. (GEL) was awarded the Export Achievement Certificate by the United States Department of Commerce for excellence in global trade. The Honorable James H. Merrill, S.C. House of Representatives, presented the Certificate to GEL at the World Trade Center Charleston’s International Trade Luncheon.  GEL is one of only two South Carolina companies to receive the award in 2015.

The Export Achievement Certificate was created in 2001 by the United States Department of Commerce to recognize small and medium-sized businesses that have successfully started exporting or that have successfully entered a new export market.

Commenting on the recognition, Mac Hodgson, Vice President of The GEL Group, Inc., stated, “Exporting our laboratory expertise is an important strategic priority at GEL, and we are honored to receive the Export Achievement Certificate.”

GEL Laboratories, LLC has been exporting its analytical services over the past decade, receiving samples from the UK, Europe, South America, Asia and Canada. After the Fukushima disaster in Japan in 2011, GEL responded by providing testing services to address concerns over food contamination.  In addition, GEL recently formed GEL Laboratories UK Ltd, headed by Dr. Alexandra Ashbourne-Walmsley, in order to gain greater access to the significant British and European nuclear decommissioning markets.
